Hey there my friend, I was just about to sit down and write out my goals for 2012 and thought that it would be a great post to share with you the methodology behind smart goal setting.
Hey guys it is Tom Pacheco I was about to sit down and write down my goals for the new year and wanted to write a quick blog post on smart goal setting. We have got a couple days left before 2012 starts and I hope everyone had a great 2011. But if you are like me, you want to make 2012 your best year ever so I just wanted to give you a couple of tips in writing some goals and how to write effective goals and what type of goals you should be writing about.
So the first one that I want to talk about is how to use smart goal setting and SMART actually is an acronym.
Smart Goal Setting Tip #1 – Be Specific
The ‘S’ in smart stands for specific, you want to be very specific in when you are setting what your goals are? So whatever your goals are you want to be very specific. Use words such as “like to” “so that”.
So if it making more money, don’t just say you want to make more money. Set a definite amount. If you want to make a an extra $1000 per month be specific about it and use words such as “to”, ”so that”.
Smart Goal Setting Tip #2 – Make Your Goals Measureable
The next thing is ‘M’ which is Measurable. When you are writing goals you definitely want it to be measurable. This will allow you to keep yourself on track and make sure you are making steady progress to realize your goal.
So lets say it is $1000 a month, that is something you can measure. It is monetary it is easy to measure so you would say, “I want to be making a $1000 per month so that I can buy a new car, by May 1st 2012.” it is very specific and it is measurable.
Smart Goal Setting Tip #3 – Make it Attainable
The ‘A’ stands for attainable. You want your goals to be attainable, now don’t expect if you are a brand new in your home based business to make $20,000 in your first month. That is probably not attainable, I am not saying you cant do it because there are people who have definitely done that before, they are not new to the industry, however, they have been around the block for a while, but make sure it is attainable, you know $200-$5,000 in your first month, that is definitely attainable and along with that it is realistic.
Smart Goal Setting Tip #4 – Be Realistic
You want to set realistic goals, if you don’t believe yourself that you can reach those goals it will never happen so if you have never made more than $5000 in your career per month, coming into network marketing for the first time and you say “I want make $50,000 a month” that is probably not realistic. Part of smart goal setting is understanding is that you are only going to get out of it what you put into it.
Smart Goal Setting Tip #5 – Keep them Time Bound
So now your goals are specific, measurable, attainable and realistic. The last tip in smart goal setting is ’T’ which stands for time bound, always want to make your goals time bound.
Like the example before I want to make a $1000 per month so I can buy a new car by May 1st 2012 as very specific it is measurable, definitely attainable, it is realistic, you can ask yourself has anybody else done this before. Yeah you know that people do that all time it is realistic and it is definitely time bound (May 1st 2012). So that is how you set smart goals. So now you now the basics of smart goal setting, what types of goals should you be setting for 2012?
