ML M TrainingHey there my friend! It’s about 12:41am right now and I just got done feeding my 7 month old baby after he woke up for his midnight snack (living the life huh? Sometimes I wish I was a baby again!! LOL).

Anyway, I was just thinking about a conference call I had earlier with my team and our 2011 Trainer of the Year and Circle of Excellence award winner Mrs. Bernadette Trafton.

One of the things she covered on the call was an old technique we learned about 5 years ago in the business to reduce the amount of “no shows” to our live business overview presentations that we’d conduct.

This is one of the techniques that I’ve used and it works like a charm. I like to call it “The 3 Touch Rule” and here’s how it works:

TOUCH 1 – YOUR 1ST CONTACT. The day you invite your guest and get a “YES”
TOUCH 2 – YOUR 2ND CONTACT. The day BEFORE the scheduled meeting.
TOUCH 3 – YOUR 3RD CONTACT. The day OF your meeting.

Put the following in your own words –
(TOUCH 1) Hey, I’ve got something you gotta check out, what are you doing on Tuesday night at 7:30? Great, I’m going to call you on Monday to touch base and let you know that everything is still set on our side. Okay? Great! (Do this because there is a good chance they will forget, don’t insult them. The purpose of the 2nd call is to remind them.)

On Monday (Touch 2) Call them and say, “Hey this is Tom, I’m just calling to let you know we’re still having the meeting tomorrw. Feel free to bring somebody with you, but I will need to call you a couple hours prior to get a final head count, is that Okay?. See you there.

On Tuesday, 2-3 hours BEFORE the meeting. Call again (TOUCH 3) and say, Hey this is Tom, I just wanted to make sure you have accurate directions, it’s 1 Industrial Drive. How many people do you have coming with you?

The reason why this works is that you are able to remind your prospect a few times before your meeting without seeming like your badgering them or insulting them. Let’s face it, life happens and people forget. Worst case will be they will let you know if something had come up and they can make it.

Try out this technique and let me know how it works for you!

If you have another technique you use to minimize or eliminate the “no-shows” please share it with us by leaving a comment below.
